Lesson 1

The Art of Bluffing

How to lie convincingly (and when not to).

Bluffing isn't about "acting" strong. It's about telling a consistent story that makes sense.

A good bluff requires three things:

  • A Scary Board: Cards that could easily hit your range (like common Straights or Flushes).
  • A Week Opponent: Someone who plays "Face Up" (bets when strong, checks when weak).
  • A "Blocker": A card in your hand that makes it impossible (or unlikely) for them to have the nuts.

Key Takeaways

  • Don't bluff 'Calling Stations' (players who never fold).
  • Tell a story: Did you bet Preflop? Did you bet the Flop?
  • Use 'Blockers' like the Ace of the flush suit.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Bluffing just because you missed.
  • Bluffing deeply into multiple opponents.
Worked Example
You Have The Ace Blocker
As5d
The Board (3 Spades!)
Ks9s2sJc3h
You missed your hand. But you hold the Ace of Spades. You know 100% that your opponent does not have the Nut Flush. This makes your bluff highly effective. You bet big!
