Lesson 3

Reading the Output

How to translate colored grids into real stratgey.

When a solver finishes, it shows you a grid of hands, usually colored by action.

  • Green = Check
  • Red = Bet / Raise
  • Blue = Fold

Mixed Strategies: Often, you will see a hand that is half-green and half-red. This means the solver wants you to mix your play. E.g., "Roll a die. If 1-4, Check. If 5-6, Bet."

Indifference: When a solver mixes strategies, it usually means both actions have the exact same Expected Value (EV). It doesn't matter which one you pick for profit, but mixing keeps you unexploitable.

Key Takeaways

  • Colors represent actions (Bet/Check/Fold).
  • Mixed strategies make you harder to read.
  • You don't need to memorize exact frequencies, just the general idea (e.g., 'This hand likes to check mostly').

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Trying to implement 43.5% frequencies precisely.
  • Ignoring the EV (Expected Value) of the move.
Worked Example
The solver shows Ace-King suited as 100% Bet. Ace-King offsuit is 50% Bet, 50% Check.
This means with the suited version, you ALWAYS bet. With the offsuit, you can mix it up.
