Lesson 2

Why Acting Last is a Superpower

Information is money. Acting last gives you the most information.

Imagine playing Rock-Paper-Scissors, but you get to see what your opponent throws before you throw. You would never lose.

Position works the same way. When you act last:

  • If they check, they show weakness. You can bet and take the pot.
  • If they bet, they show strength. You can fold comfortably without losing more.
  • You control the pot size. You decide if another card is dealt (by checking back/calling) or if the pot grows (by raising).

Key Takeaways

  • Acting last = Information.
  • Information = Better decisions.
  • Position is often more important than your cards.

⚠️ Common Mistakes

  • Calling bets 'just to see' when out of position.
  • Underestimating how hard it is to play from the Blinds (worst position).
Worked Example
Opponent Checks to you on the Flop.
You have two choices: Check back (take a free card) or Bet (try to win now). If you were first, you'd have to guess what they would do.
